How do I create an ungraded assignment?

With some regularity, we assign work to students that we will not be collecting and grading (reading, for example). Rather than having these cluttering up our gradebook, we can mark them as “not graded” in Canvas.

Start by creating the assignment as usual, either in the calendar or the assignments list:

Whether you start in the calendar (left) or assignment (right) view, click the More Options button. At the bottom of the assignment, show the advanced options and change the grading type to Not Graded:

Not graded assignments show up in student to do lists and on the calendar, but do not appear in the gradebook (and you can always change them back to graded assignments later on, if the occasion arises…)
