Check Analytics to Find “Missing” Students

If you’re wondering whether or not students are actually seeing what you post to Canvas, you can check in the Course Analytics — the button is on the top right on the course home page.

You can see individual student analytics at the bottom of the report. The first thing to check is the Page Views. If a student has an all white bar, they haven’t been to the page. For those students, reaching out to them or to their advisor would probably be a good idea, especially if they’re missing important material!
The three main areas (Activity, Assignments, Grades) have little blurbs that explain what you’re seeing. The big thing to know is: don’t panic if you see lots of red under Assignments. Currently, assignments that don’t include an online turn-in show up as not turned in… online (and thus distressingly red).
For more on using analytics, check the Canvas Instructor Guide. Or check out Kevin Reeve’s talk at InstructureCon on how he uses analytics to support students.
